Over 40 years ago, people of faith and sacrifice pursued God’s vision to make a place for people to connect with Jesus Christ, and with each other in authentic community. In 1965, 15 families began what was known then as Fellowship Baptist Church. They secured four acres of land, and voted to begin building the first building. Over the next five years, these families made a place for almost 300 new members. In 1970, the church dedicated its new sanctuary (which serves as our Fellowship Hall today). Two years later, another building was completed, and we purchased ten additional acres of land to continue making a place for people. With over 1,100 people involved in our church we became known as the fastest growing church in the Gulf Coast region. By 1985, we built and dedicated our current Worship Center. A few years later we purchased the building that would house the MET Family Life Center, and another building that serves as our Administration Building. Each time as God provided a place for us, still more people came. In 1998, we finalized the Atrium. It is home to our Preschool Ministry, adult Small Groups, and our Worship Ministry. We’ve expanded our parking lots, remodeled every building on our campus, and purchased more land to accommodate the scores of people who have found a place at The MET in the last decade. What began with 15 families has grown to over 8,000 members. There are countless souls who have been transformed eternally—simply because 15 families obeyed God, and made a place for them. To day, that vision remains the same. This passion to make a place for people fueled our church’s growth over the next 15 years. In 1982, we changed our name to Metropolitan Baptist Church. |
